Five Minute Friday... Crowds

Go...
Crowds. Honestly I avoid them if I can. My hands clammy. Heart beating rapidly. Can I go unnoticed or will someone try to talk to me?
Small talk. I hate small talk. And crowds are the breeding ground for small talk.
I wish I could blossom. Be like so many others and happily socialize. Instead I am stuck in my introverted shell. I don't mind it most of the time. But crowds force me to realize just how much I don't like crowds. To much exposure. To many people.
I like people. I like talking. But there is something about crowds, the group, that sucks the social right out of me.
Stop...

Writing for five minutes unedited with Lisa-Jo Baker and friends here...

  1. I get this:), I am fine talking with a few people, but crowds are not my favorite either. From one introvert to another.

  2. A wonderfully honest post, putting words to what I and so many others feel. You're not alone feeling that way in the crowd! But isn't it so important to be people who do see the 'one' more than just the blur of a crowd?... a laser view of the individual, the real, the honest and the marginalised... If it takes clammy hands and thumping heart to be like that, so be it! Thanks for sharing this today, Lauralee. x

  3. I used to be like this. Not so much now. I am a teacher and can stand in front of a room of one hundred children....but stick me in the room on back to school night and the anxiety is back!

    1. I actually love teaching! It is the unorganized crowd that does it to me, like parties and purposely social gatherings. (or back to school nights!) Thanks for visiting. :)

  4. I don't like crowds either. I truly think there are many more of us than we realize. I tend to look for someone else who is alone in a crowd & join them. Then I gain a new friend from the experience & find it to be much more comfortable. Joining you from FMF :)

    1. I think you are right. But it is hard to find the other introverts sometimes (it may have something to do with the fact that we aren't usually the most outgoing people). I am glad that you have found a way to make it work for you. I may have to try that next time. :)
